Day 2 : A. Andrew Gonzalez

Pretty much everything about this artist is on his website but I just wanted to stop and explain why I enjoy his work so much. They are very spiritual, and remind me of Alex Gray, but while Alex uses a lot of color, Gonzalez’s pieces are often monochromatic. When an artist takes away a lot of color they are trying to make you focus on the subject. Color is emotional after all.

As a painter, I look at the slight indentations and folds he creates and drool. Gonzalez has an awesome sense of light in his pieces that really just blows me away. He uses warm tones that give a glow to his piece and there is so much movement and a current in them. The eye travels up and out of the head like the kundalini energy.

those hands are so delicate

Fantastic, absolutely incredible.
